painter lengths

Yep thats a good length.

Means that even single handed you aren't stretched out like a puppet holding your boat.

We normally tell people 1 1/2 times the length of your boat , but 10m is a good length.

Hi. How long should my painters be for a 4m boat? We regularly use the locks including teddington.

Thanks

I would advise you to have a sub 4m painter.

The logic behind that is that it wont fall overboard and risk fouling your prop.

This is particularly important on smaller boats as its more likely to fall overboard with people moving around so close to it.

I would then prepare a much longer extension line 6m-8m that can be attached to the painter for when you go in locks. It also gives you a bit more flexibility to use the warp at other times for mooring, anchoring, tow lines etc.
