does anyone know what paint i can use to repaint the shaft of a tohatsu 9.8 outboard. and what paint i can use to paint its prop?

If down to the alloy, you need aluminium etching primer, then some nice hard paint of your colour choice on top.

I'd use an aerosol of car paint, it's easier.

but how long will it last? I found I had to resort to 2 pack epoxy paint to get anything to last for more than a few weeks.

Most outboard dealers will stock the manufacturers touch up kits - spray top coat, and a zinc chromate primer for bare metal. Follow insatructions religiously - for example, spraying an extra coat of primer if not called for may well result in the second + subsequent coat falling off in weeks.
