Paint Stripper

I've just finished stripping all the anti-foul off Stingo, mainly with the help of some nasty, nasty paint stripper. On the tin, it says something about cleaning the residue waxy deposit off with the manufactures brand of thinners. Their thinners has no effect on the waxy deposit. So team, besides a match and a blow-torch, what should I use to remove the wax?

easy answer

go down to the local hardware store and ask for a
tin of top grade Elbow grease, a glass hammer and a left handed screwdriver....
use these to scrape, bash and polish off residue wax

I dont need use this method any more cos my hull is coppercoated

Really need to know the details of the paint stripper in question!

The label on the tin is not very useful - it simply says "A blend of extremely strong solvents and thickening agents capable of softening old paint and varnish" and "Volatile Organic Compound". It is manufactured by Sissons, which, I think is a local paint company here in Grenada.

would a hot spray (the sort used on engine bays) be any use ?


Or, if it is that resistent, then you might have discovered the new anti-fouling for which we have been waiting ....

Which thinners did you try

Thinners
PAINT THINNERS: General purpose thinners for all decorative products, including primers and varnishes.
500 PAINT THINNERS: For chlorinated rubber based products, including road-marking paint.
INDUSTRIAL ENAMEL THINNERS: Includes quick drying finishes, stoving enamels, electrostatic and standard A.C.lacquer.
ELECTROSTATIC THINNERS: Use on stoving electrostatic paints.
EPOXY THINNERS: Use on Epoxy coatings.
N.C. THINNERS: Use with Sissons Nitrocellulose based lacquers, sealers and etch primers.
ACRLIC LACQUER THINNER: Use with Sissons Acrylic enamels and black bumper paint.
RETARDER: For N.C. finishes.

Thinners

You might try acetone, first try some nail varnish remover (I think is acetone), if that works than buy the proper stuf, this does soften the gel coat, so care is needed.

Or try cellulose thinners, I use what is called gun/standard thinners, it's cheaper.
