I have a slightly tatty but very reliable Mariner outboard that I'm just getting ready for another season on my tender. The paint on the shaft has been chipped and knocked and has bubbled up leaving the aluminium exposed in a few places. I don't suppose it really matters since it spends most of its time on the pushpit or in my garage but .... is there a suitable paint to spruce it up? I assume strip it, prime it and paint it ... but with what?
Any recommendations from anyone who has done this will be gratefully received.

mariner sell suitable spray paint, expensively, however if you take, say, the cowling, to a motor excessory shop, some do mix colours for you,and then put into a spray can which is much cheaper.

Clean off to bright clean aluminium apply a primer for aluminium and then a couple of coats smooth Hammerite (Smoothrite). I think Hammerite do the primer as well.

I am not a great fan of Hammerite but I have found it quite good for this and for colours (eg Evinrude) I found I could mix a pretty good colour match.

VicS right the Hammerite primer is called Special metals primer for non ferous metals inc aluminium.I used it 2 years ago and its been fine.
