Paedophiles and marinas

Would you stay in a marina in which a convicted paedophile lived ? One who is convicted and received a prison sentence (albeit suspended) for downloading kiddy rape videos !! As an ex foster carer I find this vile person sickening and as a fellow liveaboard have to share the pontoons on a regular basis . What would you do ? Live and let live ? Bring it to the attention to marina manager ? Or push the bastard in on a dark night ! BTW he knows that I know . His case is plastered all ver the Internet .

Hi Sandyman ....no there isn't but there are several couples with young children who live aboard.....not that I think they are in any physical danger . It just makes me feel comfortable . BTW this person is reported ,in the press , to have been associated with Mr Saville ...having been involved with the BBC in front of the camera !!!

I was wondering if you had an association through which you could collectively put pressure on the marina management to get rid of him.
Are the parents of the kiddies you mention aware of this person?
A difficult situation to deal with which needs much care in how you handle it.
Have you had a word with local Plod? They will be aware of him but do nothing being happy to just know where he is. I remember what happened in Porchester (back of Pompey Harbour) a few years ago when locals became aware of a Pedo
living in their community.

Im not sure not sure where harassment starts for me by blabbing it to all albeit details are freely available on the net . Others in the marina are aware of this character but don't seen to be too worried about it . Maybe I'll mention it to the marina boss but since he has "served his time ."so to speak the marinas hands may be tied .
I'm sure he would be on the " register" and judging by the time of sentencing and arrival in marina ,(BTW he was new to sailing on arrival ) the scarpered to start a new life !!

I'm probably a lone voice here (but what the heck) - if he's served his time and is on the sex offenders register, maybe the other marina users who don't seem too worried about it, have the correct outlook? Why do you feel the need to harrass and interfere unless of course you've noticed odd behaviour?

Yea you maybe quite right but he hasn't been "cured" of him sick obsession of watching children being raped . He had a choice whether to watch depraved videos the poor kids had no choice .

It is a difficult one. The problem is not that he is a paedophile but that he acted on it and broke the law. I suppose it depends on the extent of his crimes. For instance, men like women (in general) but a woman is, in general, safe in the company of men. However, they may not be safe in the company of a man who has commited a sex crime. It is the fact that someone has shown a lack of restraint that is scary as they might do it again. I would be less concerned if it was just a conviction for viewing images, even though that is part of a wider horrendous crime. I would only be concerned for the safety of the children, if you have none then perhaps it is not your problem unless you wish to make their parents aware of it through the marina manager.

I would absolutely agree with you Paedophilia is a serious crime which can have long term adverse effects for the victims. My point really is the guys been caught and punished. You don't have to befriend this chap but until you notice suspicious behaviour you do (and society does) have to give him the benefit of doubt in order he can move on from his past. If he's hounded by vigilante style of finger pointing or worse, he's far more likely to retreat into his shell and reoffend I would guess.

I think you have 3 options; ignore him as your other marina dwellers seem capable of doing; stone him to death; invite him round to share a mug of cocoa.

I agree with Wandering Star here, but I would have a bit of a plan to deal with it on a daily basis, like what you do if you need to stand next to him in the Gents for instance?

What happens if the OP does as you suggest then he (the Pedo) commits another offense? Say he assaults one of the liveaboard kids? How does the OP then live with his conscience? What would the attitude of his fellow liveaboards be towards him if they found out he knew about this person but did nothing?

If I recall correctly a medical professional was physically threatened and hounded out of the area because the locals thought anyone who had a title beginning with 'Paed..' was a child molester.

Legally there is nothing to be done by the OP as a private individual. Statistically 2 men in every hundred you meet will be pedophiles. As already said, the risk comes more from those you don't know about and is most probably going to be known to the victim as family or a friend.
