Hi I am just about to have my first engine service on princess 42 and the volvo agent asked if I was going to remove the furniture??????

what is he talking about. Does he need to get access from the internal floor and hwo the hell do you take out the U seating if its needed??

Any owner out there that can shed some light on this please????

Yes I can ive serviced the 42 before with both the earlier 63p engines in and the D6 engines in.

The early one is a real pain as the sea water pump and oil filters are outer side on stb engine under the settee, so the carpets and corner of the settee have to come up.

Remove the corner nearest the patio doors, lift it up and pull the carpet out, then the underlay, then lift out the panels.

If you have the D6 engines theres only the air filter thats on the outer side of the stb engine, im sure if the engineer is slim enough he can get to it, I did by going round the back of the engine too its a bit of a struggle but can be done.

I presume your in warranty for a dealer to do it, but EU law does state anyone thats competent, vat registered and uses genuine parts can carry out the work and still retain its warranty.

I would have thought that any good company charging the kind of money that a dealer does would know how to remove the floor and be prepared to do it for what they are charging, id question it if I were you, its up to them to prepare and carry out the job for what they are charging, just lazy IMHO, I always do it and on some boats its an hours job to remove floors etc and replace at the end of the days job, about that on the 42 and some Azimuts ive done with the big cats in.

Presume they want to charge you extra to lift the floor, tell me honestly what do they do for the money these days? its part of the job.

If your central south coast book me for next year!

OH great boat by the way. On my wish list for sure.

I had a P42 before my current T40 - and when the P42 had it's first service there was no need for any furniture to be removed (D6-435's).

Cheers
Jimmy

We are the Princess importer for Norway and we always remove the furniture if need be ourselves, the older engines required it so you had a decent amount of room to adjust the valves, but the newer models with the D6 don't require this and nearly everything that needs changing is on the port side of the engine.
I would have the floor up on a P42 as its not much fun working on your hands and knees on aluminium floor plating for a day and having to either back in or back out of the engine room.
It is easier and therefore quicker with the floor up and I am convinced your get a better job with a comfortable, happy engineer than with one who is p**d off because he is scrambling around bent double in a very confined badly lit space surrounded by hot machinery! Been there done that so always took the floor up, but now let the younger guys do it.

And of course, your non Volvo dealer engineer will have access to all the latest service bulletins, software upgrades, campaigns etc, plus the diagnostic tool to check theres no fault codes...

Yes I do have the diagnostic tool and many years of experience, and volvo training, volvo information at the end of the phone thankyou Andy.

You should see some of the mess I clear up after full dealer servicing on some boats.
