As acronym's go, this is one that's stuck in my mind ever since driving courses in the RAF back in the 70's and 80's
Pre-start checks for each vehicle
P=Petrol=Full tank/tanks or more than enough for expected use
O=Oil=Engine and gearbox oil
W=Water=Engine and washer
E=Electrics=Lights etc. all working
R=Rubber=Tyres all checked for wear and pressure
Made it simple to remember things on cold dark winter mornings, when all you wanted to do was get the kettle on and warm up. Now, faced with the same before setting off, is there a simple way to remember to do everything before letting go ?
Last thing I want to do is cast off with shore power still connected /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I believe that lies mainly with the Power community.

Up to this year, I only hook up about twice a year, and so paranoid of the robbing bill, that I unplug as soon as possible.

Maybe I just don't want to make any more of a fool of myself than is already a certainty /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Forgot that when I set off from the rough mooring to Fosdyke, had to spin around in a confined space to get lined up against the tide and used the outboard to do that, with tiller tied off dead ahead, it would have been quite funny to watch me jumping from aft deck to tiller trying to keep control while untying the tiller but keeping the outboard going the right way /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

You need to remember the following acronym....

P.O.W.E.R.

P - Wise to have one before you cast off
O - What you say when you realise that you've left a line still tied on
W - Wind - confirm that it is blowing in exactly the wrong direction, and 180° from forecast
E - Engine - check that it is running before you put it into gear and let the lines go
R - Robbed. Check that you have paid your marina fees before departing

Hope that helps......

[/ QUOTE ]Me Sir, me Sir.... I've never done it....

I have however, failed on every other score mentioned above..... with a particular favourite of forgetting to untie the tiller, which I enjoyed so much that I have repeated on several occasions.....

We don't do it any more, since we retitled it the "orange mooring line" /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Good thinking, white mooring line first off and last on, not taking bets for how long it is before I forget that /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

That's the sort of thing I'm after, yes. Used to do a similar thing before giving the all clear to taxi to take off in a glider. Simple check but 'all clear above and behind' reminded everyone to check all around before going for it. That's my thinking anyway, it would save a few blushes on my part certainly
