Hi all

Has anyone moored at the Oxford Four Pillars Sandford on Thames? I have called them and they said its ok to moor there but would like more details before we venture up there.
We are moored at the Shillingford Bridge Hotel which is rather nice, £10 per night including electric. we are going for a meal later so report to follow.

I thought I knew the Thames, but where is/are the Four Pillars??

Nowhere for anything to moor below the lock.
The pub by the lock - ?King's head has what passes for moorings, but no facilities AFAIK.

That leaves the posh hotel / restaurant on the offside going up; no 'leccy, lovely lawn.

More details needed...

Aha - done a google, must be the last mentioned item. It has a nice inlet with a redundant College Barge moored in it. I've not seen anyone else mooring there, so water depth could be a problem.
There is a landing stage in the mainstream - used to be used by Salter's (but I haven't seen any movements there for ages).

Now I've started perhaps someone else will come along to put me right...

Well, you seem to have had a better response than I did when I called a year or so ago. There were so many, 'well, its awkward' and 'I would have to ask the University (?)' that it it became quite clear that they did not want me to come by boat - a pity, as it looks jolly nice.
While we are at it, has anyone moored at the Lethern Bottel for a meal? They appear to have moorings, but I have never seen anyone moored there.

For a nicer meal, for a nicer price, for a nicer welcome. Carry on upstream a half mile or so and go to the Beetle & Wedge.

We never made it to Oxford so cant report on the moorings. Made it up to just above Culham lock before turning back. Now back at Windsor Marina and its pi***ng down.

Checked out the mooring at the four Pillars today and it should be no problem for one or maybe two reasonable sized boats to moor. The main problem (there is always a problem) is that a fence of pigwire - about 3 feet high or thereabouts - has been place a few inches from the water to keep waterfowl off the lawn.
Mind how you go !

Never stopped at the Lethern Bottle but second the suggestion of going to the Beetle and Wedge, very nice food, good service and you can moor outside and admire the view.

Just be careful of the guy who owns the land on the opposite side of the river, particularly if your boat is long, thin and made of metal...
