Just bought a kilo from Ebay £10.00 inc postage.What do you have to add in order to get the stuff to stick to sides of hull ?

It was either a packet of cheapo powder at a tenner a kilo or that Y10 stuff at £14.00 quid per teaspoonful !

this means you start with a very dilute mixture and make it stronger, rather than the other way around.

Don't worry about Fred making it too strong...that costs money.
He'll be looking to hand that acid down as a family heirloom.

That is a rule which applies when diluting concentrated sulphuric acid and doing it the other way round would be very dangerous, akin to putting water on to a chip pan fire!

Also a rule advisable when diluting other strong acids but in the case of oxalic acid you can quite safely stick the acid in a suitable non metallic container and pour in the water.

Agreed, but nothing wrong with sticking to the same rule all the time, instead of thinking about exceptions.

Why do you want to put acid (albeit diluted) on the side of your boat?

Have I been missing something for the last ten years, I'm in blissful ignorance of it's advantages.

Never used it but looking it up on google it's to remove brown stains so I deduce the Oxalic stuff does the same.
It's one problem I don't seem to have.

Hi all - I found it at just over £20 for 5kg & £65 for 25kg (these are trade prices & don't include VAT.

We do a lot of building work with this company & I noticed some of this at their depot the other day.

I spoke to John Oxley, a director, who says that they ship a lot of this for improving the look & quality of oak beams & they've been getting a lot of requests. He seemed to know his stuff & said to call if I needed help with getting the right dilution etc
