My Woodworkers Pocket Book says for lightening the tone of wood locally, bleaching stains and for taking out ink marks etc 1oz in 1/2 pint hot water. Apply with a rag. Several applications may be necessary. Wipe over with borax, about 1oz in 1/2 gallon of water. wash with clear water and dry.
Also look at the AGWoodcare website and search these forums as it has all been on here many times.
Remember oxalic acid is corrosive, it is harmful, and it is poisonous

Heres an easy way of mixing which is what Ive done for last 28 years. Open the jar of crystals. Pour in cold or warm water to brim.Leave overnight. Some of the crystals will disolve till solution reaches max strength, solids will remain lower down. As you use liquid just add more water. When no crystals are seen in jar its time to buy more. This way you only have 1 jar to look after not 2 and acid is always ready and at a full saturated state. No use by date, lasts for years.Enjoy.
[/ QUOTE ] Sounds reasonable. It'll be marginally more concentrated than my book suggests but that's all.
What amazes me though is the fact that so many boat owners seem to wallow in the stuff. I have used it as a laboratory chemical and I have a tub of oxalic acid containing cleaner that I sprinkle on the rust stains left by the mooring chain, once in a blue moon. It's lasted best part of 30 years and at the present rate of use it'll last another 30.
That seems very expensive for 500grms.
I can get 5kg from a cleaning materials supplier in my area for £19 odds, maybe I should buy a van load and sell it on ebay at £6.99 for 500grms, I might acrue enough to buy a bigger boat /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Vic, Let me know if you do run out......I bought 5kg from AG simply because I couldn't bear to pay the carriage on a lesser amount /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Even added in 5l of meths to the order which at least I'm getting through as a window cleaning additive amongst other uses.
As to dilution, I just make a saturated solution and dilute as whim takes me, typically 50% for hull cleaning.
Like Vic, I found the postage from AGW a killer and resorted to buying another tub of Y10 to get the job done. I wonder where Clyde_Wanderer got the stuff near Glasgow? I tried 4 places suggested by a google search and none of them actually sell the stuff.
[/ QUOTE ] One or two have found that pharmacies are not always willing to get it but it makes sense to try especially if you only want a small quantity. Next time I go there I'll ask our local one.
Re acid to the water. As Colmce says it does not matter with oxalic acid. It is very important with sulphuric acid!
