Own your own marina ?

You must have been moored in a very interesting area, I keep meaning to go see if the steam tug is still there.

Not much water, mostly mud...

There used be a very small marina upstream of the railway bridge on the same side as this house, owned by the brother of the guy that owns Aquastar. It used to dry to soft mud for about half of every tide and I was very dubious about mooring my shaftdrive Turbo 36 there but the marina had several other shaftdrive boats moored there including the owner's Aquastar 38. In actual fact, it was fine, the boat used to settle into the mud nicely. The only PITA of course was timing departures and arrivals. Talking about tugs, do you remember Mr Diesel and his wife? They used to be moored in the river near the marina and we regularly filled up from them. Lovely couple. I guess they're getting on a bit now or have even passed away. Does anyone know what happened to them?
I believe the marina and its car park was sold in the late '90s for development

I have to confess to an interest here. My grandfafher bought the plot and built the house in 1937 and its been the family home until mother passed away this year. The house was left to her 4 chilldren and although each of us would love to live there none of us can afford to buy the others out. Besides, as we grow older we dont want the effort of looking after such a large plot. Hence its on the market.
There is about 10ft of water against the wall at high tide drying out to mud/shingle so perfect for a boat that can dry out. Having lived in the area nearly all my life, I can honestly say that I have never experienced any airborne debris or smells. Most of the scrapyards and industrial units in the area have been demolished and are now residential. There was outline planning for 14 flats on the plot but sadly the architect cocked up and it expired.

Thats a shame. I can understand why a developer would want to thow up yet another block of riverside flats but if it was my property, I would rather it was sold to somebody who could renovate it sympathetically and turn it into a fine family home. I can confirm that yes I did regularly see tiny shards of burnt metal on my boat and the accepted wisdom in the area was that they came from the scrapyard but this was 1991-2
