Own boat tuitio River Crouch

Boat almost ready. I've got an electrician coming on Monday. Phoned Barton re rigging mainsheet and kicking strap. They were very helpful. Their technical advisor spent almost an hour on the phone with me. He examined photos of my boat before making his suggestions. Will buy the blocks today. How long do you think it should it take a take a competent person to rig up the mainsheet, kicking strap and rolling genoa? Just need two nuts for the Blake's seacocks and she should be ready for the water. Getting nervous, will she float? Yesterday evening after working on the boat at Essex Marina I stood watching the Crouch. I must admit I became at bit concerned at the apparent strength of the tidal flow! I've only got a 9.9hp 30 year old Volvo to push me along.

That current will be your friend when coming into Bridgemarsh Marina. All the pontoon berths are in line with the current so as long as you are heading into the current when approaching the pontoon you can match your forward speed to that of the current and gently ferry-glide sideways in the your berth.

It is always better to go with the tide in the Crouch, so time your trip to Bridgemarsh on the flood. When you get there, warn John you are coming, and he or Jake will be there to help. Go past your berth, and turn around some way past it, so you are approaching it against the tide. (Or if the tide is ebbing, you can go straight in). Then you can use the tide to slow you down and ferry glide into the berth. Colin will show you the technique.

Good luck and remember to enjoy it!

am feeling a bit jealous! I loved it at Bridgemarsh. The first time we went in there was on a newish to us boat, in the dark on Boxing Day and without all the cans to follow! The old manager said "it's easy, just come in leaving the beacon to port 20' and follow the cans, except two cans are missing at the moment!"

that's by the by - I just wanted to reassure you that if a numpty like me managed it in the dark and as a relative newbie, then you will be fine!
