Owatrol, again.

I intend painting my Nic 32 in the Spring, topsides, I have the paint, Int enamel. I will be doing it by hand, I believe using Owatrol in the paint is a great advantage, any advice from you experts would be very welcome, re %ages, techniques, etc, Thanks, Bill.

I'd reckon on 10%, apply with a roller or a 4 inch brush and lay off with a 2 inch brush top to bottom.

I do mine boat, 28ft, single handed, just work like mad! I did oce do it with a friend, he rolled it on and I laid it off, prefer single handed now.

Thanks for that Ben, is it a wooden boat? I was thinking 180grit for finished sanding prior to primer, does that sound ok? She has been sprayed, badly! with 2 pot and is going to take a bit of sanding. Bill.

Its a hot moulded hull so in terms of painting I suppose more akin to GRP than carvel.

I should think 180 about right, I use a Bosch PEX dual action sander and I fid it very good, although being a motorboat the surfaces are quite flat unlike a yot, other might wish to advise on that point.

I am feeling guilty now...
On the topsides I generally start with 80 grit on a random orbital on a carvel hull. Fair-off with Interfill 500, hand-sand that with 120 and go onto a primer/undercoat x2. I use about 10% owatrol in Blakes enamel and roll' n tip. The owatrol is essential if you are painting without help to keep a wetted edge.
Hand sand with wet and dry, 120 between enamel coats.

My rule of thumb...add as much as you dare, and then some more!
