Ovni - sailing experience?

Hallo!
I´m very interested in Ovni, french alu-boots with centerboard - both for bluewater sailing and cruising around in our archipelago outside Stockholm. In Sweden Ovni still is very rare.
How is it sailing Ovni upwind? Speed and "angle between the tacks". For examle the 395 or 365? Sorry for my bad english.

Dont worry about your bad english, there are a lot of people on here who can't spell properly (especially the Americans).

I am sorry that I am unable to offer any information on the OVNI. (It doesnt have enough hulls for me)

Be very careful if you criticise anyone's spelling/punctuation/grammar. The preview feature is useful.
 
I think Talbot was trying to be helpful and merely picking up on the phrase "bad english" in the original post. The wonderful thing about English is whatever that you mess make should, the clear meening of is their allways.
 
Look up Jimmy Cornell. He has a big OVNI. See noon site.

I'm sure he has tested it well. He even has a section on the site about OVNI. Ask him. He seemed to be enjoying it as he went past us around Bora Bora.

Perhaps if you had looked at his post he comments on his bad english. The response is also a dig at the yanks, who after centuries of trying still can't spell words like colour correctly.

You might also check number of posts and thus think twice and post once - it is only after midnight and a major affliction of late night posting syndrome, that spelling and grammar jibes are allowed - unless you are Jimi but nobody can understand his posts anyway.

It must be some owner of a Ovni who can tell me something about the performance upwind. The average angle between windward and COG, tacking in diffrent windforces and sea?

If you look at the web page I suggested, you will find an account of a family sailing round the world in an Ovni. However, they did MUCH more than sail round the world. They went into places and up rivers that most locals are scared to approach.

They did remarkable things in the Ovni in both open ocean and shallow water. The website is written largely for non sailors, but gives you a very good idea. They are now back in Holland - you might try to contact them.

I don't have any contact details for them, but it should not be too hard to find them.

Why don't you contact the manufacturers directly. They will have a copy of all the reports done on their boats.
 
A friend of mine has one - a 34 from the eighties - and wouldn't consider anything else.
Seen her sail succesfully in competitions a number of times, and I can state she's mighty quick and points high. In season, he dries her out almost every other weekend on a sandbank.
Maintenance is minimal. He left the hull bare alu, and just rubs it down once a year.
He bought the boat at St-Malo (Brittany) from a charter company some fifteen years ago, and at that time she looked rather tired. Nevertheless, no major technical issues over time. Some of the windows have been replaced though, as they all leaked due to the expansion/contraction of of the surrounding area. Also the temperamental Renault diesel has been replaced (by a Volvo if I remember well). The rudder hydraulics have been replaced too.
I believe apart from France, a good number are located in the Wadden area of Holland.
