Looking for a bit of local knowledge on a good place to stay overnight next week. We are off to the Big Splash on the Isle of Wight and would like to break the journey and stay somewhere within easy striking distance of the M25 in the vicinity of Thorpe Park (for want of a reference point) or surrounding area. Reasonably priced hotel or preferably a pub with rooms would be good and riverside would be a bonus.

Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks.

By boat or road?

Runnymead to start or Windsor or the outskirts?

It depends on your budget. The nicest places/hotels to stay are The Runneymede, Great Fosters and The Swan, but they come at a price. Most people I know who visit the area regularly stay at the Travelodge here in Staines. Avoid the Anne Boleyn and the Thames Lodge.
