hi all, the temperature alarms sounded for the first time today whilst running the engine on the muffs immediately after this weekends run... it's fine at idle and normal cruising sppeed.. the temperature is spot on and stable... sufficient water's coming out the exhausts when on the muffs but something's clearly not right, any ideas please?

oGaryo!
Dunna run for too long on muffs
Plus don't attempt to 'rev up' as it were
Then water pressure can be to week too!
Is it 'peeing' ok and is the water peeing cool?

only ran it for 5 mins tops mate... straight after getting back from the weekend run so the engine was already warm.. only ever run on the muffs at idle too. I reckon it's either low water pressure from the hose or it's time to take the lower leg off for a shufty at the impeller as I've come in with about a foot and a bit of water under the boat weekend befor elast so may have sucked up some crud... lots of seaweed in the leg inlets this time too

It will be the water pressure. Muffs dont provide a great seal as it is, if the pressure is down a bit, your engine is just not getting enough cooling water flow.

I only run at idle when flushing, mine overheats at anything over 1200rpm.

I will make a confession as well, mine once started overheating at idle, spent ages fault finding but just couldnt work out the problem.

In the end I decided to sleep on it and went to turn the tap off, thats when I realised I'd been using the hot tap on ! :o

..its one of those ..."you plonker" moments, look round to make sure no bugger is looking and pretend it never happened. ;):D

I would focus on the crud in the intake Gary. As you know, it is best to start with the simple things, as these are most likely to have gone wrong. If the impellor was badly damaged, there would be no circ.
