I've replaced the original fuel gauge on my Jeanneau but retained the original sender. The new gauge works fine but it's very sensitive, when the boat rolls the needle flips down to empty and back. Is there any simple way I can dampen it a little?

Problem solved. It was the sender unit. I took it apart this morning, it's a cheapo VDO unit (as you might imagine) and the rotary contacts for the variable resistor were gummed up. The awful metal strips that make the contacts inside the thing needed a good clean up too. It's now working normally.
