Over rev limit on Suzuki 115 ATL

Hi Guys. Yesterday during my boating trip i was pretty loaded and running with wide open throttle. All of a sudden rev limiter in gauge lit up and OB dropped revs and speed. After shifting in neutral engine performed fine. My question is What could have caused to hit the over rev limit? Is it possible i trimmed the OB up too much ( In which i think i have done ) or what could have i done wrong?

A cavitating prop (ie the prop starts spinning in air not water) would cause this, could be caused by too much trim, too tight a turn etc.

Dont worry about it, no damage likely to be done as long as it was only a brief over rev

I agree, if you trimmed out too much then even a small wave could pop the prop out and allow the over rev. It's actually called ventilation.

Yup too much up trim being greedy trying to get that extra 0.5 knt
