I went to visit a few friends @ an MDL Marina on Hayling Island friday night, had a great evening, but had a hell of shock Saturday morning when I paid the bill of £52.00 (£4.00 per metre).

I stayed @ Cowes Yacht Haven august bank holiday and that was under £40.00 per night in the centre of the Solent, I can only assume MDL want to discourage short term berthing @ their small Hayling site. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

MDL Strike Again

Just be glad you didnt take on any fuel. You dont even get a discount for paying through the nose for an overnight visit.

Maybe you should persuade your mates to move to Chichester (a Premier marina) where not only will your overnight stop be less, you can take advantage of the cost price fuel as a temporary bertholder.

Hopefully, as it becomes less and less practical to have a boat in a marina, the price sharks will be forced to play ball and set reasonable prices or face the prospect of every emptying marinas.

It was good to see you on Friday, shame about the cost of an overnight stay. It would certainly seem that the marina does not want visitors !!! We went down to Brighton for Saturday, sat at anchor off the beach and the marina staff rang me to check that we would be arriving late as arranged, were standing by to take our lines at 10pm, charged a reasonable £42.50 for an overnight, offered fuel at .65p/ltr and were there to assist yesterday afternoon as we left. Brilliant service.
Many thanks to all at Brighton Marina.

I guess we will not see so much of you now??

Hi Del ! I think it is called premier service, still it will be interesting to see how MDL are fairing by the middle of 2009 /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Re: Dartmouth

Total rip off. Pulled into the town quay at 2100, dutifully trotted into the harbour office the following morning to pay before I left (nobody had bothered to call round). £37.20 for the night for a 36' Ok for a marina perhaps, but for no facilities and a seriously unhelpful receptionist, a bit heavy. Harbourmaster was hovering in the background; when I very politely asked him how he could justify the charge, he went purple with rage and started shouting... Oh how proud of myself I was for keeping my cool, but I do hope that DHNA realise that they are going the same way that Salcombe did before it's too late... all in all, incredible service. Trouble with some harbour authorities it that they seem to regard themselves as unanswerable to anybody. I'll quit ranting now.

Re: Dartmouth

That is odd, we paid @ £26 for overnight 2 weeks ago on the town quay in Dartmouth, (where the tripper boats moor by day), with water and elec. 43 ft boat.

Re: Dartmouth

Exactly. They told me that I was in a 60' berth, which had I been, would've been fair enough. In actual fact though, I was rafted alongside a 38' boat with other vessels a couple of feet fore and aft of me. Not much indication that it's a 60' berth then - I suggested to the harbourmaster that if he could demonstrate to me how to park a 60 footer in that space, I'd happily pay the fee (I'm always keen to learn...).

This is when he went purple and spluttery.

I`m paying 2.10 GBP for 44ft tonight.

(to be fair thats winter mooring rates) Just between Amsterdam & Utrecht. Site has 3 bars/restaurants, showers, bogs, free bikes & wi-fi
