Over-due yacht \'Colros\', on passage from Falmouth - Madeira

As brilliantly suggested by Dyflin, we would like to ask all seafarers on passage in the North Atlantic between the UK and the Canaries to keep a radar eye open to windward for a little steel sailing yacht 'Colros' who is now considerably over-due at her intended destination of Madeira, after departing from Newlyn heading south on the 22nd December.

Thanks.

A real long shot I know, but worth a try. This guys family must be going through hell...

Does anyone know of any other MN forums?

Perhaps Herb would put something on Southbound II? He was looking for an overdue yacht when we did Antigua to Azores last year. The word spread so quickly that even ships would call us on sight to ask if we'd seen the boat. It was a relief when the vessel eventually turned up in Horta after a very long slow passage with engine failure and no power to transmit but otherwise ok.

Thank you Andy and Julie for this excellent suggestion - I did write to Herb, and he knew all about Colros. He had been in contact with MRCC Norfolk some time ago and had informed them of the likely weather conditions experienced by David.

Herb told me in his email :

"The worst conditions would have occurred between Dec 28 and Dec 29 off the West to NW coast of Portugal/Spain, with SW winds near 40 to 50 kts at that time. If the skipper had any way of receiving forecasts, he should have been able to to seek shelter in that area between Dec 26 and 27 (he should have
been able to get that far), before things got worse. If he carried on that would have been the likely area where he may have run into trouble".

My most optimistic theory is that the boat is perhaps dismasted and drifting slowly westwards, perhaps in the same manner as the S/Y 'Compromise' (a Nicholson 32) who was abandoned in the ARC in November last year. As far as I know there have been no updates since re the position of Compromise, yet the odds are good that she should still be afloat and making her own way across.
