I went to look at a boat with Enfield outdrives and I noticed during the trial as the boat was put in reverse the starboard outdrive lifted out to the point the prop come out. The port side did not do this. Is it as I thought and it just needs to be locked down or is it broke? Any advice on these outdrives would be a great help.

These outdrives have a sprung latch that allows the outdrive to knocked up if you collide with anything but should lock when put in reverse, sonds like the lacth on this one is not closing over its bar, this could be due to the latch bieng siezed or broken ,or the spring bieng broken, more likly siezed, have a good look before parting with dosh,
Contact bob knowels in Liecester,he,s on the web ,he makes them.

The Latch could be over the bar but the reverse locking pin might not be coming far enough out to lock it, due to wear on the latch. The pin can be adjusted to stop this. OR there could be something fouling the bar, i get this on my enfields when i pick up a branch!

1 thing i would say, get a mechanical survey of the engines + Legs, as kicking up in astern is the least of the things that can go wrong!
