If they are thorough and they do remove the plug, then surely should fit a new washer or O ring ( both very cheap).

When we bought our first boat outdrive equipped boat some 15 years ago, the surveyor highlighted problems with the exhaust bellows; multiple holes in it. Being new to outdrives, I was worried but those were drain holes !

Removing the gearbox drain plug and examining the contents is the most fundamental and simple check for the health of any outdrive and vital for any purchaser to ascertain if any major problems which need immediate attention by either buyer or seller are present.
It also helps if you gather together all the invoices you have on servicing/repairs from the past including those from previous owners.
Annual servicing and any major repairs should leave a considerable amount of paperwork to reassure any future buyer.
