Hi Guys
I have a pair of Volvo Penta Kad 32 engines bolted to outdrives. I was wanting to order full service kits for the outdrives and was wondering if anyone new the part number?
Many Thanks Martin

Depending on whether you have one (unlikely) or two props and it has large or small pin bushes, these are a good start. If you have never done a Volvo Outdrive service, I would get a pro in and watch what he does.

Very basic kits those, if a full service he will need some oil, seals, exhaust bellows maybe etc.... as well, no such thing as a standard service.
First thing is to drain the oil and see if water is in there then decide what to do.

Thanks gents, I'm an electrician so happy to play around with electrical issues but any mechanical issues I get the marine engineer to deal with it.
There are two sizable counter rotating props to each leg.

Thanks Martin

++++ Oil drain, change, driveshaft bellows change; but drive shaft bellows, essential? Why would you change an exhaust bellows ? I had a boat with a DPS drive, no exhaust bellows, just a rubber stub. Even if they fail, so what ? Water gets into the exhaust bellows, nowhere else. They are open to water anyway ! A surveyor brought it up for an earlier boat we were going to buy; "exhaust bellows has a series of holes in it". Yes, made that way, so it drains !

The minimum outdrive service is to change the oil. Use new seals on the dipstick drain and filler plugs.
I change the outdrive anodes regardless at every two year lift out . I am inclined also to fit new trim tab anodes as they are not expensive.
Whether to change driveshaft bellows is a judgement call. Should be done really. Use Genuine parts for bellows.

If you have the Eltrim trim tabs their bellows should be changed (an easy job) unless they are found on close examination to be as good as new.

Be sure to grease the steering - that is done from inside the boat but easily overlooked.

Thanks Martyn G, that really helps.
My outdrives look identical to yours with the exception of mine having circular anodes mounted to the top casing of the exhaust outlet.
Regards Martin

From personal experience would be reluctant to order any "kit" in advance, could end up with things you will not use .
Unless you are in a desperate hurry to relaunch boat, would wait until you see what needs doing and then buy the stuff you actually need.
Obviously you will probably need gaitors, anodes, oil but close inspection could reveal other bits and pieces best done now rather than "next" time.
Wide choice of aftermarket stuff ranging from genuine Volvo Penta round to some good and some very dubious quality parts.
In some cases the price between genuine VP and knock offs is not that great.
Youtube has lot of good tutorials online regards Volvo diesel / outdrive repairs/ servicing.
It will help greatly if you can recruit somebody to give you hand, some jobs really become easier with two people.

Thankyou gents, the boat is coming out in October and going on chocks for a few weeks (Anti foul, cut and polish etc) Will have a much better idea of what's needed.
All the best
