Its that time of year again, groveling about doing the nessesary in freezing weather, the joys of boating on a budget! I have to change my outdrive oil, do we have to use the v.expensive Volvo synthetic gear oil for Outdrives or does anyone know a cheap alternative?

Happy Scrapeing!

quite a few posts on PBO forum on this over last couple of months - suggest you search it.

seem to remember the answer was no and EP90 does the job but as I don't have a volvo drive a search would be better than trusting my memory!

Yep..

The oil used in the KAD series engine compressors is a fully synthetic oil with an extreme high/low temperature range, it also contains anti corrosive properties.

viscosity: ISO VG 68 (pn.1141641 0.25ltr)

The service life in a normally leisure application is to change every 1200hrs or at least every 5yrs.

Its goes without saying the level should be checked, at very least during the normal service intervals. As you face the front of the engine compressor is on the top left, the compressor dipstick is on the top rear left hand side of the unit.

The level must be checked on the scale having screwed the dipstick fully down first, you fill the oil through the dipstick tube/hole.

To change the compressor oil, run the engine to norm operating temp first, shut engine down, drain the oil from the drain plug located on the bottom rear of compressor and refill as above.

Ta..
