Outdrive gear cables

I should know the answer to this, but I don't!

Does my boat have two gear cables per outdrive or one?

Isn't it just one cable moving back and forth a couple of inches each side?

I think some have two. I'm sure my OMC cobra drive had one from the helm to engine, and a second from engine to drive. My VP drives all have one from helm to drive.

I think you are correct at least on some setups
