Any ideas how to shift the dip stick on a Duoprop leg. I can't seem to turn the flat blade screw head at all, the screw driver just slips because it is too tight. Left wd40 overnight and still no luck, even a tap with a hammer made no difference.

I can't be the only one whose been through this, any tips or fancy gizmo to free it.

It's a pity Volvo didn't give this some thought, a simple bolt would have been alot easier.

Thanks,

RM.

We started gently with an impact driver, then we increased hammer size, then we used a 3lb bolster hammer, finally we gave it one real hard bang and sure enough it did the trick. Having taken a dozen or more blows on the first leg the second we went for with one hearty thump and off it came. I think we were more likely to have done damage to the first leg because we thumped it so many times. So take a deep breath and go for it with a real good bang.

Then use a 1/2" drive ratchet with the broadest blade from impact set.

Had this myself a while ago.... use a small chisel or similar and hammer... put it on the right hand side of the slot and WHACK... it should be enough to loosen it...

Once it has budged by 1 or 2 mm round, it will come undore with a normal screwdriver.

Cheers,

Craig.

I had exactly the same problem two weeks ago.

Halfords have a screwdriver with a big broad blade and a hexagonal bolt head on the top. Connect to a socket on a ratchet arm and it came undone without damage.

It is vital to get the biggest possible blade in the slot to minimise the risk of damage. If the blade hadn't fitted well I would have packed the gap with suitable shims, i.e. coins, large washers.

Lastly, Copperease or silicon grease will prevent it happening again (hopefully).

Good luck.

We only had about 10 inches above the impact driver, just go for it, a short distance wack! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Also, drop the legs right down to -5

As Col has indicated - this worked a treat for me recently used full length Tbar with a 'perfectly fitting' brand new blade and No2 son pushing down as I turned on a screw that refused to budge even with impact driver.

Probable cheated a bit, but, I found that the screwdriver blade kept slipping out of the slot - so I managed to jam the screwdriver into the slot by a wedge of wood between the screwdriver head and the bathing platform, then used stilson on the screwdriver just to loosen the screw. It worked. Hope this makes sense.
