Outboard won’t start

Hi all. Second outing in my boat today and the outboard won’t start.

we launched her off the trailer, started the engine and reversed her out of the slip. All was good until I moved her into neutral and she cut out and I can’t get her to start again. I’ve tried by electric start and she tried to turn over, pumps water when she does but, won’t fire up. Can’t pull start her either.

Do you have a spark at the plug? what engine is it?

It’s a mercury 15hp. Damn thing is brand new. Yep have a spark

Check you are in neutral

check kill cord is attached

check fuel tap/vent is open

Take the plugs out and spray some WD40 into the cylinder, replace the plugs and see if it then fires up. If it does sounds like something in the fuel line, is the primer bulb on the fuel line hard?

Definitely in neutral, the fuel pump is hard. Cap is open.

Been laid down incorrectly?
Remove the plugs and turn it over, see if oil come out of the cylinders?

If you have a spark, it must be fuel related. is it EFI?

As the engine is new to you check that the fuel line is properly connected at the engine and at the fuel tank.

double check kill cord. Remove and put it back in again
