I have a mariner 60 outboard, which is in need of TLC..

It needs re-wiring, and i have to admit im a bit lost (im not new to wiring stuff, just new to outboards)

I was wondering if anybody here has done this sort of thing before, and could offer some advice on the ignition system?

I want to hook the motor up to a "quick start" push switch to start/stop the engine. I do have the workshop manual for the motor, but im a bit lost /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Any advice greatly welcomed.

If you are thinking of replacing the wiring inside the outboard cover, then there is not much option than to copy the wiring diagram in the workshop manual.

if you mean that you want to wire up a control circuit to control the outboard (ignition, aux power, batteries etc) then you could make something up as per the wiring diagram but you would be better off trying to get hold of a standard Mariner/Mercury control box and loom.

It would not be too difficult to replace the standard ignition key with a set of switches and buttons.

But please ensure you have a kill cord isolator included in the circuit. Its also a good thing to remember that having a buttton that fires up the engine might not be the best idea in an open cockpit.
