4T Mariner 6hp Outboard in a well.

Even whilst warmed up, tickover is fine then after a minute or two often, but not always, the revs start to die right down and the engine often stops.

Often, after starting from cold , but after a fair warm up the tickover stays high but too high to put into gear.

I have checked the throttle stop and that is fine. I have fresh E5 fuel and the choke is engaging and disengaging fine.

The only other adjustment is the Pilot Mixture Screw. I have followed the instructions of gently screwing fully in, then three full unwinds, then screw in until revs die followed by undoing a quarter turn which I have done.

Any ideas ?
TIA

Separate tank? Air leak in the fuel line or priming bulb or filter? Result can be an erratic fault.

One of the first things to try when it bogs down is to pump the primer hard. If it picks back up, there is an air leak somewhere. Also, always pump the bulb hard before starting. Gas can evaporate. It can run out when tipped up for even a short while.

Thanks chaps ! I think you are on the right lines.

I seem to remember the bulb not being as hard as it used to be . Will report back when I next go sailing.

Does this use cards for fuel delivery? I had a Honda once that would only ever run at full chat. Made for some nail-biting moments. If I had it now I'd be stripping the cards and looking at the needles. In my experience its always the cards or fuel line.
