Outboard slipping gear

Hi

I have a 2010 Mercury/Mariner 15hp 4 stroke outboard that I have recently given a service. I have changed the impeller which involved removing the lower unit. However I have got an issue now, where the gear seems to slip as I increase the throttle before it jolts fully in and accelerates.

What could be the cause of this? Could it be the gear shift rod not being correctly set? I tried to remember how many turns it was when I removed it but maybe I got it wrong. Would this be enough to cause slippage issues?

Any help would be great.

Many thanks

Thanks everyone, I'll get on and adjust the gear shifter tomorrow morning! Hopefully I've not knackered the gears too much. Only used it for an hour out on the water today so hopefully its still ok!

Cheers

The clutch dogs are pretty robust, you'd need to be crunching them a lot to put them out of action; the nature of the clutch is designed to cope with a certain amount of 'dugga-dugga-dugga' from not going in and out of gear quick enough.
