Outboard service help

I wasn't going to post, as I don't know of anyone who services outboards in/near Worcester. But, a general comment to get the ball rolling.....

In a similar fashion to small petrol lawnmowers, it is difficult to find someone who will service a small outboard without spending a large proportion of its value. I was faced with this dilemma and didn't bother with a service for several years. (It is only a very lightly used 2-stroke, so didn't even need an oil change). After a while I noticed that it would misfire occasionally when the revs were turned up. So, something needed to be done. But, rather than pay to have it serviced, I found a sea school on the South Coast who run a cheap one-day outboard maintenance course. It quickly showed that servicing these things is not rocket science - even 4-stroke. All mine needed was a new spark plug.

Better still, if you know how to take them apart then you can fix them yourself if they go wrong. So, if you don't already know how to do it, I would thoroughly recommend spending a few beer tokens on a course (or maybe just watching a few YouTube vids) then you can spend the rest on what you really need - beer!
