Take it home and keep it under the bed!

Seriously remove some vital part such as the plug lead or the plug, but in this case screw in an old one which you have butchered by shorting out or breaking off the outer electrode.

I use an old shroud. Padlock the shroud, outboard and tender together. Then padlock the shroud to a cleat . It won't stop a determined thief but it might just persuade him to look elsewhere.

It the only practical use I've found for old standing rigging!

First, chain it down with some hardened chain and padlock.
Modify the low tension wiring in a professional manner so it runs to earth. NO SWITCHES! Only spade/bullet connections.
And here is an old motor cyclist's trick, yep, I woz a rocker, not violent though. Rub a soft artist's pencil down the spark plug ceramic until it makes a mark between the top and base of the plug. it shorts out the spark. Rub it off when you want to use the engine.
Another ploy is to put in a dummy plug lead with no conductor. That really gets the b******s!
Good Luck.
Alan.

I bought a lockable pull-start handle a few years ago for about £25. It is easy to operate though probably not entirely foolproof but sufficient to deter joyriders. Sorrybut I do not know where to get it save that I bought it here in the UK.

attach the tender to the dock or boat with a padlock, they'll soon get bored of coming to a halt every time they get more than 6ft from the dock!

after the caribbean where everyone locks their tenders it amazes me to see £2k worth of dingy & motor tied up with a piece of string while the owners spend the evening ashore.

I padlock the engine, fuel tank and the dinghy using a stainless steel strop made for the purpose with eyes in both ends. Not absolutely secure, but far better than a piece of rope.

An old shroud sounds a good idea. Short chains are just a PIA for everyone else.
Think I will rig up a dummy HT lead as suggested - Thanks

Use a good chain and padlock. One chain can do the dingy and the outboard. If the HT lead does not detach, make a join in the middle. There are some suppressors that will do just this. Then simply take the lead with you. Simple to carry and doubt they will bring an HT lead with them.

Only downside, years ago I fitted a suppressor to the main HT lead from the coil to the distributor on my car. The engine developed problems and yes....you've guessed. I tried everything else first, as I trusted this as it was new, yet it was faulty.
