Hi All.

Yesterday went into the marina and by a moment of distraction ( fishing gear , fuel etc ) had my suzuki DF115A tilted full out of the water, and by accident i started motor out of water. As soon as i heard not the usual noise ( motor was out of water ) i turned key off so i assume it was on for only 5 seconds or 10 seconds maximum. I know its not a good thing but Do you think i made some form of damage to the motor? Motor was in neutral, maximum 10 seconds.

Because the engine was cold it probably didn’t get up to temperature so will probably be ok. The only thing I would worry about is the water pump running dry.
You’ll be surprised at the number of times I’ve seen people start their engines on the hard, either after they have taken their boat out the water or when demonstrating the engine to a potential customer in the driveway. All without earmuffs

Engine will be fine, water impeller may be damaged through overheating.
With the engine in the water, do you still get a good flow of water coming out of the water outlet?

Yes Engine was cold. First start up. Just forgot to lower the outboard in water, started on and switched off immediately.

Yes i ran outboard fine afterwards. Got a bit distracted loading fishing gear etc and forgot to lower outboard in water. Started outboard and switched off immediately. Engine was cold because it was the first start up.

Personally, I don’t think you will have caused any damage during such a short run period, including to the water impeller, however, just keep a good eye on the water telltale flow during future runs.

Same as Kwackers. It took me 25 minutes to destroy my impeller this week by forgetting to turn on a seacock.
10 seconds is nothing!

No damage. I do that often (also when distracted). There is lots to distract me when on the boat :D

(The only thing you can damage is the water pump but 10 seconds is nothing.)

Nothing to worry about.
