Outboard Motor Transom Bracket

Hi all,
Would anyone know if you can still obtain a sliding outboard motor bracket for the transom of my Quarter Tonner ?
I have seen pics of what looks like a 1 metre long slide fixed to the transom, and the whole bracket, including engine slides up and down to remove it ENTIRELY from the water.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Looks like a custom built job to me. I would doubt that is a commercially available item - but wadoIno?

Neat idea & well executed. My previous boat (Westerly25) had a trolley mounted outboard that pulled up on a curved track to lie flat in a locker under double doors. No hole in the hull to leak, no prop dragging in the water when sailing and easy to work on engine in storage locker.

looks to me as if it has been mounted on genoa track , probably using modified versions of the 22300 Barton slider in order to mount the transom pad.

That wooden bit at the bottom of the track?
I guy on our moorings took great pains to replace the wooden pad, but not the cheeks. Result:
After the winter he came down and fired up the motor and set off for a run. The bracket broke clean off and the motor (still running) disappeared beneath the water and has never been seen since.

Moral: keep a chain or wire or strop from the motor to the boat at all times.

I agree it looks like something made using genoa track or similar. There used to be sliding brackets on the market but I have not seen them for ages and I am certain that those I have seen had a much shorter lift than you have.

It does appear from your photo that the engine is very deeply immersed. I think you have a longer shaft model than necessary. Obviously you do not want to buy a new engine so could you bolt a pad onto the existing mounting so that the engine is raised by several inches. Just sufficient to enable it to clear the water when raised.

But why dont you tilt the engine once raised to lift the prop clear of the water?

Assuming the photo is of your boat or something similar I doubt you would be able to buy a bracket with the appropriate angle to suit the transom. I can see also that you couldn't tilt the motor until it was above the transom.
I would suggest you build one yourself starting from stock track and sliders. The sliders will be a probelm as you want minimum friction. You might look at mainsheet travellers with wheeels however mine only provides roller support in one direction where you ideally want roller support up and down. (in and out). Sliding may be fine.
You want a block of wood for the motor to clamp on, Angle aluminium bolted on each side, andgle aluminiumm bolted on to the sliders and thick Al wide bar to attach the two angle Al to the sliders at the correct angle.
Anyway PM me if you want more ideas and if you are DIY inclined other wise good luck in your search.
The other option is a swinging up and down commercial bracket which may be OK on the transom angle and may give enough height range.

You would have to fit a tapered block on the transom for it but none of those i have come across will have anywhere near enough lift. Mine doesn't and that has a bit more lift than many others.

I dont get my prop clear of the water when sailing but when on the mooring I tilt the engine a bit and the weight of the chain on the bow helps a bit too.

Hi all,
Thanks to all the replies. I am pretty sure the pic is of a custom made system, and I will get the drawing board out...
Just to clarify, the boat in the pic is not mine, but another boat with the same transom., well , same angle. I have a Mariner 4 Sailmate on my boat, and I cannot fully tilt it up as the remote control cable bracket on the engine snags the transom . I thought by tilting the engine slightly , then sliding it up the transom would be a good option.

If you want a proprietary make, Plastimo make a outboard mount that runs on tracks, not as long as in the picture, but you may be able to put two in line, the bracket is Aluminium and the angle is adjustable I believe. Worth a look on their catalogue or website.
