outboard magnito condenser

how do they work?how can you tell if they are faulty.
my sailing mates outboard(whilst still running)fell into the hoggin,suprise it dont work now,dried and cleaned everything,seems to point to condenser as conductivity tests show continuity from soldered centre to external case,anybody out there got any info,

Get a new one! Cheaper than buying a meter to test it....

Did you disconnect it before you tested it? You will nearly always get a false DC resistance reading if you do not.
