outboard locks help please

i have a 40hp mariner 2st 1980's vintage
when looking for outboard locks most say suitable for most small outboards without giving any info so what should i measure on the engine and lock to see what will fit.
need a lock asap as wont be insured other wise. force4 have one for 30pounds but they said they dont know what will fit it

If you show us picture of your engine backet & bolts a fair suggestion can be given.

If bolted on to the transom, the Volcano is a very good and safe lock.

its the thumb screw fixing type so need one that slides over those.

Got ours from motor locks.
The "Motorloc" is a well made piece of kit.

HWMBO was the original owner and designer of Outboard Motor Loc Ltd , (now enjoying retirement). According to our information dating back both the Pacific & the Volcano locks should fit your Mariner. Because of the shape the 'volcano' is harder to break into than the Pacific.
