Outboard is lifting up while reversing

Hi. My outboard started lifting up while reversing. I had a mechanic look at it and the rotary bracket was bend. He tried to fix it and it was running fine. But now the issue came back. He said that he had to compromise and fitted the bracket around the tilt rod assy. But then we couldn't lift the motor up at all to get to the propeller which we found out later.

The rotary bracket is no. 41, the tilt rod assy no. 8.

I would be happy to order the replacement rotary bracket but after my experience with the mechanic, I am not sure if this will solve the issue. Also, the bracket or any other part did not look broken just a bit bend. Maybe it only has to be adjusted correctly.

Works by the hooks engaging when when reverse gear is engaged. If they are worn or bent they may not do the job. Also is the spring broken? In neutral or forwards they should not engage as the engine needs to be able to be raised or kick up if you hit the bottom in shallow water.

Thank you so much for your answer. The rotary bracket was definitely bend and did not grab to anything when we lifted the motor out. It did not look like the spring is broken. However, I had the feeling that the rotary bracket had to grab onto the rotary bracket shaft (no. 31) but when the mechanic tried to bend the rotary bracket back to its original shape it still did not seem to reach the rotary bracket shaft. Sorry, obviously Im not an expert. So I hope this makes sense.

Mine did this. No damage. I just got used to putting the power on gently. I got her to bite in at about 1500 rpm, then picked it up. She usually stayed in and did not jump......

May be worth a phone call to Bill Higham Marine, Parsun distributors. They're usually helpful and it could be a known problem.
