I have a Shetland 570 with an Evinrude 65. While looking through catalogues I have noticed ads for the said items offering increased fuel efficiency, better performance bla bla bla. Fact or Fiction....?
just brought one and will be fitting to my shetland hawk on saterday . i'll post the results . i have fitted one to a tender and the results were remarkable , more speed , more stable , more miles to the gallon all the things that they said it would. but i am not sure this time . we'll have to wait until the weekend.
If you are overloaded and therefore back heavy it will give more lift, like a trim tab. Therefore key performance parameters - acceleration, speed, consumption and stability will improve.
If your rig is optimised it will just add drag, slowing you down and increasing fuel consumption.
They work well on small outboards and light boats. It will work on this rig too but the lift generated from a 65 will put a LOT of force on your outboard mountings. I fitted them to a 75 outboard... worked well but I needed to replace the mounts each year..
Try moving weight around first - if that doesn't work then try them.
Some hydrofoils are useless, I suggest you get the Dolphin make, used it many years ago on my 80hp outboard, it increased my range and gave me another 4knots top speed.
