Outboard Gearbox Oil

Can anyone tell me the correct oil to use in the gearbox of a 1999 Mariner 8HP outboard.
Have scoured the web for a Mercury/Mariner site but to no avail.

Any quality oil for outboard gear cases will be ok , ie yamaha, or honda etc, local yacht shop or fuel barge, marina shop etc will be pleased to supply it,
.

While on the subject drain a little of the existing off , has a smell like back axel oil(hypoid) & should not be white or creamy, as indicates a seal leak.
