Good afternoon,

I am toying with the idea of taking my Westerly yacht down to the south of France via the canals next spring, she has a 9HP outboard motor. Would anybody know the range of these engines before having to re-fuel?

Many thanks

David

The logic answer is to use an external tank or two. Standard size of these are approx 23 liter so you should be safe between filling stations.

If two-stroke you need to carry a few bottles of TWC-3 oil and allow the engine to regularly work at above mid range rpm for some time.

15 hp yamaha 4 stroke---30 litre tank--2/3 throttle---12 1/2 hours---1 carry 2 full tanks --so 25 hours---hope this gives you some idea----regards lenten

Depends entirely on how big your fuel tank is.

How is the throttle setting? Wide open will be significantly different to 1/3 throttle.

Also is it a 2 st or a 4 st.

http://www.tohatsu.com/tech_info/fuel_consumpt.html . In this page there is a table with fuel consumption of all range tohatsu outboard you can get idea from there. You should notice those are manufacturer data at WOT, in fact it will be different. Depends on how much throttle you use, sea condition, etc. So I recommend to you to take more fuel.
Hope it will be helpful for you.
