I have been fortunate to buy a new Suzuki 40hp outboard for my Avon RIB and am keen to keep the engine under the hood looking like new.

What can i spray on this that will achieve protection and keeping it looking good?

Thanks

I have used Quicksilver Corrosion Guard [Part Number 92 802878Q55] on my inboard engine when laying it up for the winter.

Not cheap but seemed to do a good job.

Topcat47.
Yes and no its more than that. Teflon based, excellent stuff, the nearest thing to (Forgotten the name) a spray we used to use deep sea for drying out electrical equipment (Remember its called Phospro) would not have wd40 anywhere near my gear. Nor allow the stuff on board. There are too types the one you mention and the one I earmarked. very similar, think the one I mentioned was superseded toGT85 doth cans black with a red stripe

I used the same stuff on my new-to-me Johnson after I finished rebuilding it. Wasn't what I expected - rather than a thin fluid like GT85 (or WD40), it's a waxy / greasy / slightly sticky stuff that forms a detectable coating over the engine. Does seem convincingly water-repellent and protective, I'd use it again.

Or use ACF 50 used extensively in the aircraft and motorbike world absoultly brilliant, if you buy the aerosol then put it in a bucket of hot water before use and it goes much further!

I find ACF50 much over-rated.
It is basically oil. It leaves everything oily, attracts dirt and anything that touches it gets dirty.
It also does not spray very well when cold.
It is a good oil for protecting bare ali, but a drop of lube oil wiped over with a rag is as good.

The best thing for something like a shiny new outboard is to actually take the time to wipe it over with a rag, removing any water.
Particularly salt water.
And remove any dirt, dirt holds water and salt.
A drop of oil on any threads etc.
I find GT85 a good spray cleaner/de-waterer/penetrant/polish.
Any wax polish on the outside will help keep it clean.

I use sprayable white grease on linkages and cables. I think this is recommended by Yamaha or one of my other owner's manuals.
