Mariner 6hp 2008 4 stroke OR

I've just changed the impeller and the pee hole water flow is magnificent. The engine starts ok with the propeller power running ok tied to the pontoon.

The engine sounds like it's running on land without a water flow . I'm not quite sure if the propeller wake is what it should be.

Is there a way that I can test if the exhaust is running ok through the propeller ?

Could I have done some damage putting the leg back . I had quite a struggle ?

Any ideas welcome.

TIA

You took leg off ?

Afaik all you needed to do was to disconnect the two halves of the shift rod ( via the rubber plug in the leg) then drop the gearcase assembly to access the pump.

Is the rubber plug in place in the side the leg ?

Disturbed gaskets undamaged and refitted correctly ?

Do you have it mounted at the correct depth ? Not too shallow?

Did you remove the prop or dismantle any part of the gear case assembly apart from the pump ?

I hope you dont make a habit of running on land with no water flow ...... You must not run the water pump dry or you will forever be having waterflow / cooling problems and replacing impellers

Thanks Vic. Will investigate as suggested.

Probably my inartful writing , but didn't run the engine whilst dry it just sounded like it
with water pumping ok.

Will report back.

Sorted !

It was a very simple thing. The cam / gear rod which comes from the gear box, through the leg and exits the leg to take care of locking the tilt when going from reverse to forward. All that was missing was the rubber grommet which seals the gear rod when exiting the leg at the top

It was amazing how much noise from the water/exhaust mix was making without the grommet. Vic's mention of a rubber seal set me thing, Many Thanks.
