Hello, I'm new to boating and have just bought my first boat, Microplus 500. I'm looking for a set of controls (throttle and gears) for my 25 HP Archimedes Penta longshaft outboard and have no idea what type of controls or fittings I need. I would prefer a single lever control as I'm told these are easier to use and less chance of damaging my outboards gearbox. The outboard has a small lever on side which selects between forward, neutral and reverse, but not sure how throttle is controlled. I'm sorry this a vague description.
Cheers

the controls should be available by motor builder, and they should be able to tell you what to use if they don't make the control.

Any outboard or rib retailer will be able to sell you single and double lever controls (i.e. one lever= throttle, other=gear shift) (not many doubles around these days) They come in all different installation configuartions, so best have a google for morse controls and have a look. You will then need a couple of cables to connect from the control to the outboard. Morse make the most expensive, but there are others . The only thing you need to know about them is the distance from control to the outboard (not forgetting enough slack to enable engine to turn and be lifted.

The only thing that may be missing is the connection from the end of the cable to the throttle and gearshift on the outboard, but again an outboard centre should be abe to help.

Also have a trawl around ebay.. just sold some teleflex steering stuff on there. You'll find boat bits under automotive - other - watercraft - parts and accessories, or some similar route.

Before you spend a great deal of time and / or money fixing up remotes on an A/Penta O/B, check out the price of a S/H motor from a current manufacturer with controls included.

You will have great difficulty keeping that motor going long term. You may well have the same amount of difficulty getting the cable terminations at the motor end, unless of course it has been fitted with remotes before.
