Outboard Charging coils

Ok, basically, I’ll expand on the first question that I asked. Does anyone know if a standard Mariner battery charging kit supplied as an accessory in 2006 for their 4 hp 2 stroke engine (of the same year) has a voltage regulator? Mariner just refer me to the suppliers but they don’t seem to know. I’d really like to be sure I’m not going to wreck my plotter!
Thank for all the info so far by the way, the stuff on battery condition was really helpful (I’ve printed it out for future reference.)

I used to be vague but now I'm just not so sure

Thanks for the info on that. It really adds to the confusion unless you can find out what all the code letters mean. A decent dealer authorised dealer ought to be able to unravel them. It really is only the larger engines with substantial electrical outputs that need regulators. My 6HP E'rude only produces 5 amps maximum and thats only at full revs so pushing a small sail boat along at little more than a fast idle the current going into a chaged battery is so small that no regulation is needed .

ago,

based on what Gmac has said you ought to be able to get an authorised dealer to unravel the meaning of all the code letters in the model or serial numbers.

A good place to go and ask for advice if all else fails are the iBoats forums: http://www.iboats.com/bbboard/html/mainpage.html You'll find separate boards there for each make of engine and a question posted on the relevant board there with all the details ie make, hp, model and serial numbers should get an answer from someone who really knows.
