Hi i removed one of my mariner 50hp 2 stroke carb with the walbro fuel pump due to a fuel leak i put it back together refitted it and it won't start has new fuel cleaned plugs fully charged battery but it won't fire up just turns over my question is how do the gaskets fit on the walbro pump as i might have put them on wrong one of the gaskets is a brown silk type can someone help please with photos not just writing it please it was running before i removed one of the carbs to fix the leak .

Anyone lives close to me in birmingham that could sort it for me as it was running good before i removed one of the carbs due to a leak now it won't fire up after ive refitted it been on it 2 days now also since i removed the carb i also had to disconnect the choke but since i refitted the carb and refitted the choke it doesn't start up but turns over and when i flick the toggle on my throttle control for the choke that doesn't work either it doesn't click or move but the engine turn over noise slows down when i press it .

Have you tried to fire the engine up on the good carb by disconnecting the ht lead to the carb you have serviced will sound like a bucket of bolts but might help towards a new starting point could even be some gunk in the carb you have serviced that's got stuck in a port or a jet

How to you start it up on one carb as don't think you can and if you could i don't know which ht leads to diconnect as there are 4 as its a 1985 approx mariner 50hp 2 stroke 4 cylinder outboard mate .

Sorry thought might been a twin carb engine. But should fire up with the 3 good carbs connected. Have you checked the lanyard killcord connector in case its went bad?. Have that happen before to me.

Right got choke sorted and got it to start up but it shuts off straight away but will start up again straight away again but won't run or tick over ?????

image.jpg or dose the black one go on first then the gold one or the other way round , also i need a new gasket kit because the gold one has a slight rip in it and i can only get the engine to run if i squeeze the primer bulb would it be down to these gaskets the wrong way round and the fact the gold one has a slight tear in it because it ran fine till i removed the carb and put it back on cheers for any help you give .

I've found this kit on ebay usa item number below image.jpgbut there doesn't seem to be enough gaskets for the walbro fuel pump mine has 4 including the 2 in my photos but it's missing one on his listing the one that goes on first number 25 on the next photo attachment i think that's the diaphragm gasket which is sandwiched between the first 2 pieces ? in the photo the one on the squarish one on the far right my walbro fuel pump has 2 of them exactly the same shape one is black and the other like a gold colour but this kit only has one ?

Hmmm, a bit harsh. VicS is trying to help. You might try posting on the PBO forum?

Can you post a picture of your fuel pump and the parts that you have already? might be able to give you a better answer seeing all the bits laid out .

I have done quite a few fuel pumps. Most gasket sets I've used in the past contain some bits that aren't always needed but are there for slight various model differences.

Wouldn't go ahead and buy the ones from ebay unless your really sure. Try calling a mariner agent in uk or one local if they are decent and not money grabbers then they should be able to tell you strait away. If the first one doesn't give you any insight try another

Then flipping well ignore my suggestion

I don't know the answer despite spending a fair bit of time trying to find some info that might help. It seems no one else here is able to offer any help. Maybe, as rafiki suggests, someone on the PBO reader to reader forum, who does not normally come here, will be able to but generally its with small sail boat inboards and small outboards where the engine knowledge lies.

The two forums I have suggested are the best source of help with outboards that I know.

If you don't want to post on those forums then you I suggest you either take the whole lot along to your Mariner dealer or order a workshop manual from him. The online dealer locator should find someone not too far distant.

Next time you take something apart perhaps you will make more careful note of how it is assembled.
