thats what i`m hoping, but i thought they looked sparkling before i cleaned them,we are hoping to go out to an island for a picnic tomorrow so that will be a small test...i have my dowts,it all seems a little strange!
fantastic day. outboard happy, wife and child happy,i`m happy.happy happy happy.
got family on board with all the beach gear for the day,got up on the plane, throttled off a bit,sat on the plane for 1/4 to 1/2 mile, absolutley faultless.
so, i dont know! i can only think that the problem lied within the carbs and after blasting everything through with the aerosol carb cleaner something must have got cleared.
the only other thing that i can think of is when i put everything back the last time i really tightened everything up tight, like to the point where i thought it was too much, maybe.
i`m not touching it again though till the end of the summer, just in case.
once again, thanks for all your input.
well done shetland, glad you got sorted with no major dramas (crankcases and manifolds etc...)
Carbs can be a real arse sometimes, i used to work in a (bike)garage when a kiddie on a chopper rolled up, bike running like a real sack of nuts, garage owner was ready to book in compression tests, dyno's all sorts. So while he was doing all that, I pulled the (well sooty and oiled) plugs, cleaned them up with a brush, and told him to go around the block, stripped plugs again and they were already well mucked up - Solution - bit of grit in the floats causing them to stick open... " 1 x phillips and a few mins later all good!
With carbs the tinyest peace of crap can ruin your day and lead you to believe it's something really nasty, and usually that tiny peace of crap get's there when you've been screwing around with them.
But my whole point about this rambling post was - check your plugs first, give them a clean and check them again, can be a real good shortcut to the problem.
Glad to hear that's sorted. The fact that it happened suddenly in the first place points perhaps to some muck in the fuel. May be a good idea to filter any fuel you have and flush the tank.
I see a suggestion in July PBO to filter fuel through a coffee filter paper . It's an idea but it sounds a touch on the hazardous side for petrol. I have filter in a syphon tube that I use when transferring fuel especially any that has been stored from the previous year.
