Outboard age from serial number

My insurers have asked me for the age of my tender O/B, a Mariner 2hp
ser no.150875.

Anyone have that link to the site that lists them please?

Are you sure that is not the date??

I put the number into http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Merc2/Mariner/parts.html and it did not find the number.

Here is another site http://www.marineengine.com/, but I could not find the number here either.

I'll bet that VicS finds it!!

Check the number.
Is it preceded by another group of letters and numbers?

Where was it made. Japan or Belgium ?

If it begins 6A1- its a 1990 Japanese one ( rebadged Yamaha ??)

If it begins 646- it's a very old ( pre 1974 ) Japanese one


I cannot see any US or Belgium numbers that it might be


There are a lot of gaps in the records for some reason

If its old it's probably not worth insuring.

The motor is a new old stock item, not yet run ( in fresh water ) if I believe the owner, and I think I do, it looks and runs like new.

The plate states Mariner 2M/6A1/150875/ Made in Japan

Phillip's site shows it matches their 1985 model, and manuals with it are copyright 1985, so it shouldn't be older.

Now given all the relevant details it looks as though it is a 1990 one ... the first suggestion I made in my earlier post
