Duh! , silly me I thought the grammar looked a bit strange. Too many acronyms around and not enough letters in the alphabet to differentiate between versions.OK slight missunderstanding to the meaning of LCD
Lowest Common Denominator in this case.......
That's interesting; may be a "special" (Sandford is non standard as there are extra push buttons for the gate sluices) and my source said there was no indication available of what the remote end was doing. Both ends say Red for down, green for up and flashing while operation is in progress, but only for that set.Having done two more OOHP locks this morning, some more observations.
It looks like it would be a relatively simple matter of adding an illuminating switch in the close paddles position (attended mode) as there is at Sandford....
AFAIK there are no sensors for how much water is in the chamber - probably too difficult / expensive to sense levels or differential levels at either end. Thus sluice up / down = start automatic process only. Can't operate gates until sluices are fully up, and pressing sluices down just stops the cycle. Now another point is that both locks this AM had sluices closed one was empty and I needed to fill it so saved me a button push. The other was full so I had to wait while the sluices opened for no reason........I tried short pushes and the system doesn't recognise them it needs a good two seconds to set the sluices off.
The systems that are used lower down the Thames where you have to open the sluices manually seem to work far better and are far clearer cant understsnd why someone tried to reinvent the wheel after all the number of buttons is the same.
I'm glad someone agrees with me; was beginning to think I was "a man crying in the wilderness".
It would be nice to know if EA actually listen to these comments at the appropriate level (AQ has acknowledged receipt of written comments, but forwarded the details), but it would be nice to get some considered feedback - with the opportunity to make amendments if one knew their objections.
Lockies only (get to) operate the locks in attended mode and as such they say the new system is great because they can operate the sluices from the other end, and being grateful have left the matter there.
