Just for info, I have just replaced a couple of older Hammar auto inflation do-dah's and decided to test one under water.
Put it under 4" water and it did not do off.
Tried it in 6" (the basin was full) and it still did not go off.
Gave it a good shake and was whacking it on the bottom of the sink and still nothing. Eventually pulled the handle and covered the wife and kids in water from the release of CO2 under water. Kids thought it was brilliant, the wife not so much...
I was a little surprised as I have had them (accidently) go off in as little as 1" when I have rinsed the LJ's in a bath. That was an expensive mistake.
This one was 3 years past it's replacement date.
I'm a little surprised but I guess those dates are there for a reason - just passing it on as it's the time of year when many people are lifejacket servicing and may be tempted to stretch the life of these past the replacement date.
