The small bottle of Grotomar I've been using has an expiry date sometime in 2011 - well I assume it's an expiry date - does this stuff go off with age or do you just use more to compensate (might try Marine 16 for a change)

It depends where you buy your diesel fuel from. If you buy from a reputable marina it already has additives to protect it against bug, which reacts with the stuff you might be tempted to pour in. Our marina has a warning about it.

I'm sure it'll still be OK, but you could up the dose by 50% if you wanted. When you've used it all, it would be a good idea to switch to a different biocide occasionally. I'm not aware of any evidence that different biocides react with each other.

Tell them that you want a guarantee it won't react with the stuff some other marina has put in when you've refuelled elsewhere. Maybe they'll tell you it's only safe to top-up at their marina. :)
